WELCOME TO TALL OAKS STORE
" A MAGICAL SHOPPING EXPERIENCE"
Deep in the Allegheny National Forest, where the trees lean close as if sharing secrets, there is the "Neatest Little Gift Shop" tucked among all the pines and oaks. You don't really find it so much as it allows you to notice it. The path curves, the light softens, and suddenly there it is, humble and warm, like it has been waiting specifically for you.
The store seems to breathe with the woods. It's windows glow even on cloudy days, and the shelves inside feel thoughtfully arranged, not stocked. Every item looks chosen rather than sold, as if it wandered in from the forest and decided to stay. Trinkets hum quietly with stories, jars promise comfort, and the air carries the mixed scent of incense, moss, and something you can't quite name.
Time behaves differently there. Minutes slow, worries loosen their grip, and people speak more softly without being asked. Step back outside and the forest closes around you again, unchanged but kinder, like you've been let in on a small, kindhearted secret.
"The Neatest Little Store" in the Allegheny National Forest isn't magical because it sparkles or performs tricks. It's magical because it reminds you that wonder can be small, tucked away, and patient enough to wait in the woods until someone is ready to believe in it again.
There are good reasons why people say we're magical. One of them is that people visiting us soon find they are unhurried....that the Tall Oaks experience is simple and laid back. Ever notice those crowds at the malls? People rushing around, high stress levels, all that? Well you won’t find that at Tall Oaks. What you will find is a rustic, family-oriented, peaceful environment. The fact is, our location is a large part of our charm. We’re on Rte 666 between Sheffield and Marienville, PA. ( Check out the map here on our Website for exact location.)
Right across the road from us is Tionesta Creek, one of the best trout fishing streams in the region. And all around us are the thousands and thousands of acres that make up the Allegheny National Forest -- the largest national forest East of the Mississippi. In addition to the fishing, there are hiking trails and camping throughout the forest.
The ride through the forest to Tall Oaks is an experience in itself. Deer are common and we’ve even spotted the occasional bear and a bald eagle or two. The stretch of highway from Barnes to Hickory that takes you right past Tall Oaks has been called the most beautiful Autumn Drive in Pennsylvania -- and that's something.
Folks have taken to calling our location the "Hidden Valley" First time visitors frequently tell us how surprised they are to find something like " Tall Oaks " out here in the woods. But that's the way we like it.
We aren’t the first to set up shop here. Going way back, Native Americans had villages along Tionesta Creek. As we hear it, their name for the creek was Tummeahanna meaning "Wolf Creek." Later, the name became Tionesta, which means " Meeting of the Water. "
Our little store opened in October of 1981, featuring gifts, decorator items, candles, Christmas ornaments, candy, lamps, plaques, prints, garden accessories, collectibles, items made here at Tall Oaks by Tom & I, and of course, the unique hand picked items for which we're known for are featured in the store -- well, we could go on and on, but we think you get the idea. Since 1981 our little store has gone through alot of changes, many of you have followed us through all of this and we appreciate your continued patronage, support and compliments on the changes we have made throughout the years. We still feature all of the items listed, but we also feature many more unique items including Bigfoot items, so come visit us and experience the peacefulness and captivating beauty of the Allegheny National Forest.
